About Octus Mindzz Training
Octus Mindzz is a KHDA-permitted private training institute in Al Barsha 1, behind Mall of the Emirates, running since 2017. Most of what it teaches is languages: its language page lists more than 25, from English, Arabic, French and Spanish to Russian, Mandarin Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Hindi, Tamil and American and British Sign Language. Classes run online or in person, as private lessons or small group courses, and the institute advertises a 'Learn Now, Pay Later' payment option. For children, it also runs coding classes for kids aged 6-12, with courses by grade level that start at Scratch Junior (grades K-2) and move up through Scratch, Minecraft, Roblox, Python, app building and Arduino robotics. Older students can take exam preparation, including SAT and EMSAT, and the institute describes itself as a British Council partner and IELTS registration and training centre. The language courses are general courses for adults as well as children - one beginner group is described for expats - so ask which classes suit your child's age.
The activity
Other Languages, explained
Foreign language classes for children build vocabulary, grammar and conversation skills in a language beyond English and Arabic - useful for expat families keeping up a home language, or for children learning a language relevant to family heritage, travel or future schooling. Lessons typically combine speaking, listening, reading and writing with a native or fluent instructor, and can run one-to-one or in small groups, in person or online. Starting age varies a lot by provider and language, but most learning centres offer levels from complete beginner upward so children (and often accompanying adults) can start at any age with no prior knowledge.
Who it's for
Children and adults. The coding classes are for kids aged 6-12, and Scratch Junior is for grades K-2. Exam preparation (SAT, EMSAT and others) suits older students. Language courses are open to all ages, but minimum ages per language and level aren't published - ask the provider.
What to expect
The language page invites you to book a free trial class, and each group course listed on the site (beginner Mandarin, Arabic, English, Russian, German and Korean, intermediate English, and coding for kids) shows a free assessment. The language groups are general courses rather than children's classes - the beginner Russian group, for example, is described for expats - so ask whether a group suits your child's age. The kids' coding classes, for ages 6-12, use hands-on activities, games and projects. Lessons can be online or at the centre in Al Barsha. Class times, session length, class size and what to bring aren't published - ask the provider.
