About LanguageOne Dubai

LanguageOne Dubai teaches Dutch language and culture to children aged 3 to 18, alongside their regular school. It says it has taught in Dubai for 20 years and has around 200 primary and secondary pupils. There is no standalone centre: lessons run at partner international schools. The 2026-27 timetable lists four: Dubai International Academy (Emirates Hills), with integrated primary lessons plus after-school groups, and after-school classes at Ranches Primary School (Arabian Ranches 2), Fairgreen International School (The Sustainable City) and Collegiate International School (Umm Suqeim 2). Most pupils spend two to three hours a week in class. The curriculum is built around themes, covering reading, writing, speaking and listening, and older pupils work towards exam programmes. Children with limited Dutch can join entry groups. Culture is part of the year too, with King's Day, Children's Book Week and Sinterklaas celebrated. Classes are small, and there are no private lessons. It suits Dutch and Flemish families who want their children to keep up their Dutch while living in Dubai.

The activity

Other Languages, explained

Mother-tongue or heritage-language classes help children who speak a family language at home keep it strong while they go to an English-language school. Instead of learning the language from scratch, children read, write, speak and listen in it with others their age, often through themes, stories and cultural celebrations. It keeps children close to grandparents and family abroad, builds confidence in a second literate language and makes a later move back to that country easier. Programmes like this usually run for a couple of hours a week alongside regular school, and many take children from preschool age, with separate beginner groups for those with little of the language yet.

Who it's for

Children aged 3 to 18, from beginners to Dutch-speaking children improving their home language. Young learners must be potty-trained and used to a school environment. Children with limited Dutch can join entry groups: Mini (ages 5-9) and Maxi (9+); the 2026-27 timetable also lists 'NL voor beginners' (Dutch for beginners) groups at Collegiate International School and Ranches Primary School. Secondary pupils prepare for exam programmes, and the timetable lists a Dutch B/CNaVT group at Dubai International Academy.

What to expect

Lessons are small group classes of Dutch language and culture, usually two to three hours a week (one hour for some preschool groups), held either within the school day or after school depending on the location. Each unit follows a theme and mixes reading, writing, speaking and listening, with celebrations such as Sinterklaas and King's Day through the year. Books are lent to pupils for the year and are included in the fee, along with tests and cultural activities. You can request a free trial class; the Dubai site manager then contacts you to arrange it. Joining mid-year is usually possible, depending on space and your child's level. For what to bring on the first day, ask the provider.
