The activity

Football, explained

Football training builds ball control, passing, shooting and game understanding through fun drills and small-sided games, where every child gets plenty of touches of the ball. Younger children start with play-based sessions that develop balance, coordination and confidence, then move on to technique, teamwork and positioning. Older players add tactics, fitness and match play, often with tournaments and leagues. Many children start between four and six. At Nexgen, the youngest group (Mini Champs) takes ages 4-5, the Grassroots Program ages 5-8 and Youth Development ages 9-17.

Who it's for

Children from 4 to 17: Mini Champs (ages 4-5), Grassroots Program (ages 5-8) and Youth Development (ages 9-17). The academy also runs Fitness and Conditioning for all ages.

What to expect

Nexgen offers a free demo session before you sign up. Mini Champs sessions for 4-5-year-olds use games and colourful props, and parents are encouraged to take part. Grassroots sessions for ages 5-8 mix basic skills such as dribbling, passing and shooting with small-sided games so every child touches the ball. The regular programme is 8 sessions of one hour, twice a week. What to wear, what to bring and which group trains at which branch aren't on the site, so ask the provider when you book the demo.
