About LANYMU Arts & Music
LANYMU Arts & Music is a small music and arts institute in Goldcrest Executive, Cluster C, Jumeirah Lakes Towers. It says it is KHDA registered and teaches children and adults, one-to-one and in groups, with online lessons as an option. Children can learn piano, violin, cello, guitar, ukulele and singing, and the about page also lists recorder and percussion. Younger children have their own tracks: an Early Childhood Program for ages 1 to 3 built around rhythm, movement and listening, and a Junior Music & Arts Program for ages 4 to 6 with beginner piano, ukulele and percussion plus arts and crafts. There is also an Inclusive Music Class designed for Children of Determination, an English Through Music class, and ensembles such as a children's choir, strings group and bells choir. Students can prepare for ABRSM and Trinity exams if they want to, and the institute holds a recital every term. Fees are published and the first trial class is free.
The activity
Music Lessons, explained
Music lessons give a child regular time with a teacher on one instrument or their voice, such as piano, violin, cello, guitar, ukulele or singing. Beginners learn how to sit or stand with the instrument, keep a steady beat, find their first notes and read simple music, then build up to whole pieces. Along the way children practise focus, patience, memory, listening and hand coordination, and many enjoy working towards a recital or a graded exam. Short practice at home between lessons makes a big difference. Many children start an instrument at around four, and younger ones often begin with group music and movement classes that use singing, rhythm games and simple percussion.
Who it's for
Children from age 1 up to teens, plus adults. LANYMU's about page lists an Early Childhood Program (1-3 years old), a Junior Music & Arts Program (4-6 years old) and a Music Program (6 years old and above). Its FAQ suggests around 4 years old as a good age to start an instrument, with a free assessment first. Beginners to advanced. The Inclusive Music Class is designed for Children of Determination, with teaching adapted to each child's needs.
What to expect
Start with the free trial class. LANYMU's FAQ says a teacher assesses your child and then recommends a course and a lesson schedule, and children can try different instruments before choosing one. Individual lessons are 30 minutes or 1 hour. The institute lends selected instruments for use in lessons, but asks families to have an instrument at home for practice and to bring books and materials to each lesson. There is a waiting area where parents can stay during class. Fees are paid monthly in advance, and you need to give 24 hours' notice to reschedule a lesson; lessons missed without notice are not made up or refunded.
