About Knightsbridge Fencing Club Dubai, Sport City

Knightsbridge Fencing Club teaches Olympic épée fencing to children aged 7 to 16 at GEMS School of Research and Innovation in Dubai Sports City, where it runs the school's official fencing programme. The club was co-founded by Julianna Révész, a former World No. 1 épée fencer and senior World silver medallist, and Tamas, a former Hungarian national team fencer; the pair started Knightsbridge in London in 2009 and lead the Dubai club. Children start with a 30-minute trial and assessment class (AED 100) in a 7-9 or 10-14 group, with all the specialist kit provided. From there they join the 30-minute Beginner sessions for the term, then move up to one-hour Sparring sessions when they are ready, with optional tournaments for those who want to compete. Classes run Tuesday to Sunday on a published 2026-27 timetable, and enrolment is handled in the club's own app. Teenagers aged 15-17 start with a private lesson. The club says it is recognised by the Dubai Sports Council and affiliated with the International Fencing Federation (FIE).

The activity

Fencing, explained

Fencing is a one-on-one combat sport fought with a blade, scored electronically when a touch lands. Épée, the weapon taught here, is one of three Olympic weapons: the whole body is a valid target and there is no right-of-way rule, so whoever touches first scores. Children start with footwork, the en garde stance, the lunge and how to hold the blade, then move on to controlled bouts called sparring. Fencers wear a mask, jacket, underarm protector and glove, and the épée has a blunt tip. The sport builds balance, quick reactions, focus and decision-making under pressure, and it rewards thinking as much as speed. At this club children can start from age 7.

Who it's for

Children aged 7-16 for group classes, split into ages 7-9 and 10-14 for the trial and beginner groups. No previous experience is needed. Teenagers aged 15-17 and adults begin with a private lesson rather than a group class. The Modern Pentathlon programme is for ages 7-12.

What to expect

Book a 30-minute trial and assessment group class online in advance (AED 100); there are no walk-ins. Arrive about 15 minutes early, as visitor access is arranged with the school's security. Your child learns the first movements, handles an épée and tries the sport, and the club provides the jacket, underarm protector, chest plate, mask, body wire, glove and épée. Your child wears long training trousers, a plain T-shirt and clean indoor sports shoes. If it clicks, you download the Knightsbridge app, add your child, pick a class and enrol for the term; the club suggests training once a week or more.
