The activity

Swimming, explained

Swimming lessons take children from first getting comfortable in the water to swimming on their own with good technique and safety skills. Early sessions focus on water confidence: breathing out under water, floating, kicking and getting in and out safely. Strokes such as front crawl and backstroke come next, usually taught in small groups sorted by age and ability, with an instructor in or beside the pool. Beyond the swimming itself, lessons build fitness, coordination and a child's confidence around pools and the sea, which matters in a city with so much water. Starting ages and group sizes differ from school to school, so it is worth asking before you book.

Who it's for

Children learning to swim, from age 3: the academy's Facebook page says it teaches water sports to children and adults from age 3 upwards. Age groups and levels at the Al Qusais branch are not published, so ask the academy which group suits your child.

What to expect

Get in touch before you go: the academy takes bookings by phone on 0547485554 or 0545008581 and on WhatsApp, and Google recommends booking an appointment. Google lists a swimming pool and toilets on site, and a wheelchair-accessible car park. The academy does not publish what a first session involves, how long classes last, what to bring, group sizes or whether a trial is offered, so ask when you message. Tell the academy your child's age and how confident they are in the water so it can suggest a group. The hours Google shows are the branch's opening hours, not a class timetable, so ask for class times too.
