Italia Conti Associates Dubai: performing arts classes in Dubai Hills
About Italia Conti Associates Dubai
Italia Conti Associates Dubai teaches dance, acting, singing and musical theatre to students aged 5 to 18 from a ground-floor studio in Dubai Hills Estate, Acacia A, where you can drop children off right outside. It describes itself as the first international branch of Italia Conti Associate Schools, linked to the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in London, founded in 1911. There are two ways in. Open classes are for everyone and are grouped roughly by age (Mini, Junior, Intermediate, Senior), with teachers moving a child up or down after the trial if another level suits them better. The published timetable runs from Broadway and ballet for minis to commercial dance, jazz, acro, aerial and acting for stage and screen for older students. For committed young performers there are two audition-only programmes, Dance Company and Theatre Company (Theatre Company is for ages 11 to 18), plus musical theatre intensives in the winter, spring and summer breaks. The principal is Claira Vaughan, a former West End performer and choreographer.
The activity
Musical Theatre, explained
Musical theatre brings three skills together: singing, acting and dance. In a typical class children warm up their bodies and voices, learn a short routine or song from a show, and work on the character behind it, so the song tells a story rather than just being sung. Over a term they build confidence speaking and singing in front of others, rhythm and coordination, memory for words and steps, and the habit of working as part of an ensemble. Many schools start children in playful mini classes from around five, then add more technique, harmony and acting as they grow, with older students often picking a focus or training towards auditions and shows.
Who it's for
Children and teens aged 5 to 18. The school's rough age guide: Mini 5-7, Junior 8-11, Intermediate 12-14, Senior 14-18, with students grouped by ability after their trial. Open classes are open to all; Dance Company and Theatre Company are audition-only, and Theatre Company is for ages 11 to 18. There is a boys-only musical theatre class on the timetable.
What to expect
You book a trial through the school's interactive timetable, by email or on WhatsApp; all bookings must be made in advance. At the trial the teacher watches where your child fits and will tell you if another level would suit them better. Bring plenty of water and snacks. Uniform is sold at the studio. Drop-off is right outside the ground-floor studio; if you want to come in and chat, the site points to nearby paid parking. Whether the trial is free or charged is not published, so ask the provider when you book.
