What ages can join the children's choir?

The sign-up page splits children into the Junior Choir (ages 8-13) and the Senior Choir (ages 14-18); the course page calls the under-18 choir the Junior Show Choir.

When and where does the Dubai choir meet?

On Fridays during term time, 13:30-14:45, in the theatre at Hartland International School, Sobha Hartland, Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum City.

Yes. Individual lessons are for all ages and last at least an hour; group lessons are for you and up to three friends (4 max in total). Lessons are booked in blocks of 6 or 12 to keep a weekly slot. Lessons run in Dubai only; ask the provider where they take place.

How much do lessons and choirs cost?

Individual lessons for a child are AED 400 per hour; group lessons are AED 300 per person per hour for 2, AED 250 for 3 and AED 200 for 4, paid termly. Inspire Singing Academy is a singing school run by husband-and-wife team Rob and Ange Johnston, both graduates of the Royal Academy of Music in London, who say they have over 50 years of singing teaching and vocal coaching between them. Their focus is safe vocal technique for children and adults alike. For children and teens, the main group option is the Junior Show Choir, signed up as Junior Choir (ages 8-13) or Senior Choir (ages 14-18): a 75-minute weekly session where pupils learn to sing in harmony, work as a team and try different singing styles, building to a performance for family and friends each term. In Dubai it meets on Fridays at the theatre of Hartland International School in Sobha Hartland. The academy also offers individual lessons for all ages and group lessons for you and up to three friends (four in total). Its contact address is 40 Al Oshaar Street in Umm Suqeim 2. On Google it has 4.6 stars from 21 reviews.

The activity

Singing, explained

Singing lessons teach children to use their voice well: breathing, pitch, rhythm, tone and the confidence to sing in front of others. In a show choir, kids learn songs together, often split into harmony parts, so they also practise listening, teamwork and following a director. One-to-one lessons focus on a child's own voice and songs, working at their pace. Good teachers keep young voices safe, avoiding strain while the voice is still growing, and use games and warm-ups to keep it fun. Many children start singing lessons in primary school, and no prior musical experience is needed to begin.

Who it's for

Children aged 8-13 join the Junior Choir and teenagers aged 14-18 the Senior Choir (the course page groups both as the Junior Show Choir); individual and group lessons are open to all ages and levels, from beginners to advanced singers. Adults have their own Adult Choir (19+).

What to expect

Choirs: anyone can come to one trial session before deciding to join; if your child continues, the trial becomes the first paid session, and fees are paid termly in advance. Each Junior Show Choir session runs for 75 minutes and the term ends with a performance for family and friends. Lessons: there may be an initial paid trial lesson, then lessons are booked in blocks of 6 or 12 to hold a weekly slot. Individual lessons last at least an hour. Missed lessons or sessions are not refunded or made up. What to bring - ask the provider.
