About Hangtime Basketball Academy

Hangtime Sports Academy runs its basketball programme at Bloom World Academy in Al Barsha South, one of two basketball venues alongside Jebel Ali School in Damac Hills. The academy was set up in Dubai in 2018 and its curriculum is approved by the UAE Basketball Association and Dubai Sports Council, built on USA and FIBA practices. Players are grouped by age, from 4-6 up to 16-18, and then by level: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced and Elite. Beginners work on fundamentals, speed, agility and coordination in a fun setting; Intermediate adds team principles and strength and conditioning; Elite players compete in local leagues and tournaments. The coaches put as much weight on mindset and life values as on the sport, and the academy says it works closely with parents. Co-founder Kerim Erkan is USA Basketball and FIBA certified. It's rated 4.7 on Google from 64 reviews.

The activity

Basketball, explained

Basketball for kids builds footwork, hand-eye coordination and teamwork through drills, small-sided games and, as children progress, full matches. Sessions typically mix individual skill work (dribbling, shooting, passing) with team strategy, and coaches often bring in fitness and decision-making alongside the sport itself. Many programmes start children from around age 4 in a fun, movement-based format and build up to structured league or tournament play by primary-school age. It suits kids who like being part of a team and thrive on structure and repetition to build confidence on court.

Who it's for

Children and teens aged 4 to 18. Basketball groups run in age brackets of 4-6 (Beginner, Intermediate), then 7-10, 10-12, 12-14, 14-16 and 16-18 (each Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Elite). The free trial is used to place each child in the right group.

What to expect

Start with one free trial session: the coaches use it to assess your child and place them in the right age and skill group. After that you enrol in a monthly course, which starts on the 1st of each month and is paid in advance (non-refundable). New players pay a one-time AED 225 kit fee covering two jerseys and shorts with a custom name and number. The academy recommends at least two sessions a week. A missed session can be made up at the same or a neighbouring branch within the month if you tell the coach first. Session days and times aren't listed - ask the provider.
