The activity

Chess, explained

Chess teaches children to plan ahead, weigh consequences and stay patient through a game with no luck involved - every move is a decision. Beginners start with piece movement and simple tactics, then progress to openings, strategy and tournament play as they improve. Most clubs take children from around age 4-5 through structured levels, often taught in small groups or one-to-one, with online options for practising between sessions. It suits kids who enjoy quiet focus and problem-solving, and many parents notice it carrying over into better concentration and patience elsewhere.

Who it's for

Students under 18; one parent review on the club's site mentions children from age 4 to 16. Private coaching runs from beginner up to 2400+ FIDE level.
