About Proball Basketball

Proball Basketball Academy is a basketball club for children and teenagers in Al Barsha South, Dubai. It was founded in the summer of 2021 and is run by coach Recai Ozturk, a former professional player from Turkey who played for 20 years and holds a degree in Physical Education and Basketball Coaching, plus FIBA and Turkish Basketball Federation coaching certifications. Group basketball sessions are for ages 7 to 18, and the academy also offers personal training and fitness sessions. Its competitive squads play as the Flames: the academy reports league titles for its U14, U16 and U18 teams in the DOBA and Jazzville leagues in 2023 and 2024. The club puts learning first, in its own words: "We are not worried about winning or losing as much as learning." Its stated aims are fitness, social skills and well-being, with values such as discipline, integrity and sportsmanship. You can book a free trial through the academy's website, or message the team on WhatsApp.

The activity

Basketball, explained

Basketball is a fast, five-a-side team game played on an indoor court: players dribble, pass and shoot to score through a hoop, then switch straight back to defending. For children, early sessions are mostly footwork, ball-handling and passing drills, small games with partners and in groups, and learning the rules. It builds agility, coordination and jumping, and because every player attacks and defends, it teaches teamwork and self-control quickly. Many children start with simple ball games when they are young, then join a squad and play league matches as they grow. At Proball, group sessions are for ages 7 to 18, and the academy's competitive teams play as the Flames.

Who it's for

Boys and girls aged 7 to 18 for group basketball sessions (the trial form asks for gender and offers both). The trial form's age list also includes 4-5 and 5-6, so ask the academy whether there is a place for a younger child. Players of all ages and abilities are welcome, according to the academy; the academy's competitive teams play as the Flames (U14, U16 and U18 are named on the site); ask the coaches how players join a team. Personal training and fitness sessions are also offered.

What to expect

Start with the free trial: fill in the Book Your Free Trial form on the academy's website with your child's age, gender, a preferred date and whether you want group sessions or personal training, and the team comes back to you. The academy describes its sessions as drills with partners and in groups that work on footwork, agility, jumping, defence and attack, plus learning the rules of the game. Session length, kit and what to bring are not listed on the site, so ask the provider when you book. Photos from the academy show training in an indoor school sports hall.
