About Gulf Gymnastics

Gulf Gymnastics Club runs gymnastics classes for children at two branches: Al Barsha, next to Barsha Mall, and Al Safa, next to Safa Park. The club says it teaches both recreational and competitive gymnasts, from age 3 up to high school, and follows the USA Artistic Gymnastics programme for skill progression. At Al Barsha, the autumn 2026 term on the club's booking page lists Little Gym (60-minute sessions), Beginners, Level 1 and Level 2 (120 minutes) and Level 3 (180 minutes), held at Al Barsha Community Centre. Its coaches speak English, Arabic and Russian. Enrolment is by the term, with a sibling discount and a pay-half-now, pay-half-later option, and the club offers a free trial class if you get in touch first. Training is barefoot in a sports hall, and parents collect their children from inside the hall. On Google, the Al Barsha branch is rated 4.5 from 15 reviews and Al Safa 5.0 from 12.

The activity

Gymnastics, explained

Gymnastics builds strength, flexibility, balance and coordination through structured moves on floor, beam, bars and vault, with simpler versions for younger children. Sessions usually start with a warm-up and stretching, then move through stations where children practise rolls, jumps, handstands and shapes before progressing to harder skills as their confidence grows. Many clubs group children by level rather than by age alone, so a newcomer joins a beginners group and moves up as skills are signed off. It is often described as a foundation sport, because the body control it teaches carries over into almost any other activity a child takes up later.

Who it's for

Children from age 3 up to high school age at recreational and competitive levels, according to the club's homepage; the class booking page does not list ages per group, so ask the club which group suits your child. At Al Barsha, groups run by level (Little Gym, Beginners, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3). The club says it welcomes children of all backgrounds and abilities, and its kit rules cover both girls and boys. The Elite groups (Pre-4 Junior, Pre-4 Senior and Levels 5, 6 and 7) and a Level 3 Squad group are listed only at the Al Safa branch, not Al Barsha.

What to expect

Book a free trial class by WhatsApp (050 912 2347) or email first. Girls wear a gymnastics leotard (the club sells them if you don't have one; no ballet skirts or frills), and boys wear a leotard or a t-shirt with stretchy shorts. Leggings and long sleeves are allowed for modesty. Training is barefoot, hair tied back with a soft tie, and no jewellery or watches. Bring a water bottle, and no nuts or chewing gum, as some children have severe allergies. Keep your child with you until the class starts and collect them from inside the hall at the end.
