The activity

Cricket, explained

Cricket coaching for children usually starts with the basics of throwing, catching and batting, then adds bowling technique, fielding and, later, match play. Sessions tend to run in small groups on a pitch or in practice nets, with a coach feeding balls and correcting technique. Along the way children build hand-eye coordination, timing, teamwork and patience, because cricket rewards focus as much as power. Many children begin with fun, recreational sessions and some go on to school or club matches once the skills settle. It suits children who enjoy ball games and being part of a team, and it can be played by boys and girls alike.

Who it's for

Children from 7 years, according to the academy's Facebook page, which says its coaching programme starts from the age group of 7 years. It does not publish separate age groups or levels, so ask the academy which group your child would join at the venue you pick.

What to expect

The academy's 2026 season sessions run for 90 minutes on weekdays at Arcadia School, Al Furjan (5.30pm-7pm) and two hours at weekends at PAD, Oud Metha (6pm-8pm), going by its Instagram posts. Details of a first session, kit and any trial are not published, so ask before you go: which age group your child would join, what to wear and bring (bat, pads and helmet, or just trainers and water), whether there is a trial and how fees are charged. The academy's number is +971 55 336 7499. Pick a venue on this page to see its days and times.
