Esperia Volleyball Academy at Collegiate International School, Umm Suqeim
About Esperia Volleyball Academy
Esperia Volleyball Academy (EVA) runs volleyball and beach volleyball classes for kids and teens at school halls and beach courts across Dubai and Abu Dhabi, from Umm Suqeim and Emirates Hills to Mirdif and Dubai South. In Umm Suqeim, indoor classes are at Collegiate International School and beach volleyball is at Kite Beach; Dubai International Academy in Emirates Hills is another indoor venue. The academy's site gives the kids' age range as 7 to 17 on its kids page and 6 to 17 on its location pages, with classes grouped by age and level. New players start with a free trial, booked through a registration form on the academy's website. The kids' packages include kit essentials, the registration fee for the term and several tournaments during the year at no extra cost, and there is always a sibling discount. In school breaks the academy runs camps and tournaments, indoors and outdoors.
The activity
Volleyball, explained
Volleyball is a team game where two sides try to land the ball on the other side of a high net, mostly with their hands and forearms. Kids learn the basic touches first: the dig (a forearm pass), the overhead set and the serve, then move on to spiking, blocking and playing short games as a team. Because players never hold the ball, it trains quick reactions, hand-eye coordination, footwork and talking to teammates. It is non-contact, so it suits children who like team sport without tackles. Many clubs start children in simplified mini-volley from around 6 or 7, with smaller courts and lighter balls, before moving up to the full game.
Who it's for
Kids and teens from 7 to 17, from complete beginners to experienced players; the academy's location pages say 6 to 17, so ask if your child is 6. The published kids' packages are for new joiners and junior players; competitive and intermediate students are asked to contact the academy to book a place for the next year. Ask the provider about mixed or separate groups for girls and boys, and about support for children with additional needs.
What to expect
Your child's first session is a free trial. Fill in the registration form on volley.ae (it asks for your child's T-shirt size and preferred training venue, and a parent signs the terms), then the academy gets in touch to arrange the session. Session days and times differ by venue and are not published online, so confirm your child's session when you book. Classes are indoors in a school sports hall, or outdoors on the sand at Kite Beach. After the trial, the coaches suggest a level and you choose a package. Ask the provider what to wear and bring for the first session.
