About Dubai Taekwon-Do Academy

Dubai Taekwon-Do Academy now trades as Emirates Taekwon-Do, and its old website (dubaitkd.com) redirects to emiratestkd.com. It teaches traditional ITF Taekwon-Do, and its classes run at 365 Open Sports in Falcon City of Wonders, Dubailand - the one venue its site lists as open, with its other venues marked temporarily closed. Children are grouped by age, from Tiger Cubs (ages 4-5) and Young Dragons (6-8) up to Rising Heroes (9-11) and Sun Guardians (12-15), with Arabian Oryx for ages 16 and over. All programmes follow the official ITF syllabus. Every class is built around the five tenets of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit. Pricing is published: a flat fee every 28 days based on classes per week, with grading exams included and one free trial class for new students. On Google it has 8 reviews, and all of them are five stars.

The activity

Martial Arts, explained

Taekwon-Do is a Korean martial art built on kicks, strikes, blocks and patterns (set sequences of moves called tul), alongside partner drills, self-defence and, later, sparring. Traditional ITF Taekwon-Do, the style taught here, is built around five tenets: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit. Students grade through coloured belts towards black belt, so there is always a clear next step to work towards. For young children, early classes lean on games, balance, coordination and listening, with simple kicks, punches and stances. As they grow, the syllabus gets more technical, and protective kit and light-contact sparring come in gradually once they show enough control.

Who it's for

Children and teens by age group: Tiger Cubs (ages 4-5), Young Dragons (6-8), Rising Heroes (9-11), Sun Guardians (12-15) and Arabian Oryx (16+). No previous martial arts experience is needed, and adults train too.

What to expect

New students get one free trial class, and they can come to it without a uniform. For children, the first class is about comfort, confidence and fitting in with the group. Expect simple coordination and balance games, first kicks and punches, following instructions, bowing and basic etiquette, and partner activities. Bring comfortable clothes and water. Enrol within 24 hours of the trial and your child gets a free uniform; after that, it costs AED 250. Each student also wears a digital belt that tracks attendance.
