About Dubai Elite Gymnastics Academy
Dubai Elite Gymnastics Academy (DEGA) is an artistic gymnastics club in Al Quoz 3, behind Al Quoz Mall, running since 2013. Classes start at 18 months with Pepitos, a 45-minute baby class where a parent joins in, then move to one-hour classes for 3-year-olds (Smurfs), 4-year-olds (Kinders) and 5-year-olds (Chicos). From age 6 there are two-hour classes for boys (6+ and 10+) and girls (6+ and 10+), girls' Level 1-2 classes based on the USA Gymnastics compulsory levels, and three-hour squads for selected girls at Levels 2, 3 and 4 and above. The club says it follows USA Gymnastics skill progressions. The timetable also lists Acrodance for ages 3-15, plus adult gymnastics and an Open Gym on weekday afternoons. Term fees and trial-class fees are published on the club's classes page. The coaching team introduced on the website includes founder David, a former elite gymnast who competed for Ecuador at the World Championships, and Maryna, a former Ukrainian national team gymnast. It's rated 4.2 on Google from 50 reviews.
The activity
Gymnastics, explained
Artistic gymnastics builds strength, flexibility, balance and body awareness through a steady progression of skills on the Olympic apparatus - vault, bars, beam and floor for girls, with rings, parallel bars and high bar added for boys. The youngest children usually start in a parent-and-child class focused on movement, coordination and confidence, then move into short independent classes where they learn rolls, jumps and basic shapes. School-age gymnasts train for longer and work through structured skill levels, and those who show commitment can move into a competitive squad. Along the way it teaches listening, discipline and resilience, and suits kids who love climbing, tumbling and seeing clear progress.
Who it's for
Babies from 18 months (Pepitos, with a parent on the floor), 3-year-olds (Smurfs), 4-year-olds (Kinders) and 5-year-olds (Chicos); boys aged 6+ and 10+ from beginner to advanced; girls aged 6-9 and 10+ at beginner and intermediate level; girls' Level 1-2 classes for children interested in competing; and squads for selected girls at Levels 2, 3 and 4 and above. Acrodance runs in 3-6, 7-9 and 10-15 age groups, and there are adult classes too.
What to expect
Pepitos is 45 minutes with a parent taking part; Smurfs, Kinders and Chicos are one-hour classes that start with a 15-minute warm-up, then rotate through vault, bars, beam and floor. Classes for age 6 and up last two hours, and squads three hours. A trial class is charged: AED 85 for the baby and 3-5 year classes, AED 150 for the 6+, 10+ and Level 1-2 classes, AED 180 for squads. Girls wear a leotard (no skirts or frills), boys a vest or close-fitting T-shirt and shorts; no jewellery, long hair tied back, and bring a water bottle. Children arrive 10 minutes early, and parents wait in the seating area.
