About Dubai Club for People of Determination

Dubai Club for People of Determination (DCD) is a club in Al Qusais, established in 1993 and formerly known as the Dubai Club for the Disabled. It exists to help people with disabilities build fitness, confidence and friendships through sport, culture and social activity. Its Sports Division trains athletes across three categories - Paralympics, Special Olympics and Deaflympics - and lists 20 sports, including athletics, swimming, wheelchair basketball, powerlifting, boccia, archery, table tennis, taekwondo, horse riding and football. Beyond sport there are religious, cultural and educational, and theatre programmes, plus a women's division. Every summer the club runs a Summer Programme of sports, arts, life-skills workshops and trips; its 10th edition in 2026 welcomed more than 250 participants, including young teenagers. Membership is free, and the club says it offers opportunities to over 350 members. DCD has hosted the World Archery Para Championships (2017 and 2022) and the Asian Youth Para Games (2017). It is rated 4.6 on Google from 434 reviews. Registration runs through the club's membership portal.

The activity

Adaptive Sports, explained

Adaptive sports adjust rules, equipment or coaching so children and adults with physical, intellectual or sensory disabilities can train and compete. Sport for people with disabilities is often grouped into three movements: Paralympic sport (physical and visual impairments), Special Olympics (intellectual disabilities) and Deaflympics (hearing impairment). A child might try athletics, swimming, wheelchair basketball, boccia or table tennis, with coaching adapted to what they can do. Beyond fitness, parents usually look to adaptive sport for confidence, friendships, independence and a place where their child is simply one of the team. There is no single starting age - it depends on the sport and the child.

Who it's for

People of determination (the UAE's term for people with disabilities), with sport in Paralympic, Special Olympics (intellectual disabilities) and Deaflympics (hearing impairment) categories, plus a dedicated women's division. The club's Summer Programme includes teenagers - its 2026 write-up features participants aged 13 and 14. Age brackets for each sport are not published on the club's site, so ask the provider which sports and squads suit your child's age and needs.

What to expect

To join, the club directs new members to its membership portal (dcpd-mms.com); membership is free. The site does not describe a first session, kit list, trial policy or training times for children, so call or email the club before your first visit and ask which sport and squad fits your child. If you are looking at the school holidays, the Summer Programme mixes sports, arts, culture, life-skills workshops and recreational trips - the 2026 edition ran more than 120 activities and workshops and 42 trips. Ask the provider for this year's dates and how to register.
