DC DanceSport Academy is a ballroom and Latin dance academy at Al Fattan Tower in JBR, the Dubai extension of a US-based academy founded in 2016. Alongside adult social and competitive programmes, it runs a Children's Dance Program in small groups: Mini Dancers for ages 4-6, and Young Dancers for ages 6-8 and 9-12, with advanced training by invitation. Children follow one of three tracks. The Essential Track is for first-timers and centres on rhythm, play and musical connection; the Development Track brings in structured International Ballroom and Latin technique and syllabus work; the Performance Track, entered by invitation or evaluation, adds intensive coaching, workshops and camps for children ready to commit. Families usually start with a trial class and consultation (AED 150), then move to monthly classes (AED 500 a month for one class a week) or a 16-lesson semester (AED 1,800 over four months). It is rated 5.0 on Google from 8 reviews.

The activity

Dance, explained

DanceSport is the competitive side of ballroom and Latin dance - partnered styles built on rhythm, posture and footwork. For young beginners it starts with music, rhythm games and simple movement sequences that build coordination and confidence in a group. As children progress they learn proper technique in International Ballroom and Latin styles, usually following a graded syllabus, and some go on to compete. Along the way it builds balance, musicality, discipline and the ease of dancing with a partner. At DC DanceSport Academy the youngest group, Mini Dancers, starts at age 4.

Who it's for

Children aged 4-12 in age groups: Mini Dancers (ages 4-6) and Young Dancers (ages 6-8 and 9-12). Complete beginners start on the Essential Track; children ready for structured technique move to the Development Track; the Performance Track and advanced training are by invitation or evaluation. The academy also teaches adults.

What to expect

The first step is the Trial Experience (AED 150): one group class, followed by a short consultation and a gentle assessment of your child's coordination, focus and comfort in movement, with a recommendation on the best next step. You book it through the academy's online trial form, which asks about your child's age, any dance background, preferred days (weekdays, Saturday or Sunday) and morning or afternoon. Classes run in small groups with individual attention and regular feedback. What to wear and bring isn't published, so ask the provider when you book.
