Swimming lessons take children from first splashes to confident, safe swimming in stages. Beginners get used to the water with bubble blowing, floating with support and safe ways in and out of the pool. Next come short independent swims, gliding and breath control, then freestyle and backstroke, treading water and longer distances. Later stages add breaststroke and butterfly, turns and rescue skills, and some children move on to timed training and squad swimming. Along the way kids build strength, coordination, stamina and the water-safety habits that matter in a city full of pools and beaches.
