Battledore Sports Academy: badminton coaching in Al Rashidiya
About Battledore Sports Academy
Battledore Sports Academy is a badminton academy in Dubai, with a base on the indoor courts at Bright Learners Private School in Al Rashidiya and a second Google listing in Al Mamzar, Deira. Its coaching runs in levels, from a Beginner programme covering grip, footwork, shot-making and court awareness, through Intermediate and Advanced groups, up to Elite and High Performance squads that add match analysis, video analysis and tournament preparation, plus a separate badminton fitness programme. Boys and girls train together. The academy's FAQ says children's classes run every day, with sessions from 4pm to 6pm and from 5pm to 7pm, each about two hours long, and a new child's group is decided over the first few assessment sessions. The FAQ does not say which venue each slot is at, so ask which branch runs your child's slot. Parents are welcome to stay and watch or drop off. The academy says it has more than eight years of experience, and testimonials on its site credit coach Alfaz and his team. Fees are not published, so message the academy for current rates.
The activity
Badminton, explained
Badminton is a racket sport played indoors with a light feathered shuttlecock hit over a high net, as singles or doubles. Children start by learning to hold the racket properly, move around the court in short bursts and time their swing to meet the shuttle. It builds fast footwork, hand-eye coordination, reflexes and stamina, and because the shuttle slows in the air, beginners get long rallies sooner than in many racket sports. Many clubs take children from primary-school age, grouping them by level rather than strictly by age, and keen players move on to junior tournaments.
Who it's for
Boys and girls who want to learn or improve at badminton, from complete beginners to competitive players; training is co-ed and children are placed by skill level, decided over the first few assessment sessions. Age bands are not published: ask the academy which group suits your child.
What to expect
The first lesson is a welcome and an assessment: coaches watch how your child plays, then guide them to the right group, and the session focuses on getting familiar with the court and the other players. Sessions last about two hours on synthetic courts with feather shuttles. Bring water, a badminton racket and non-marking shoes (compulsory), and wear sportswear that lets your child move freely. You can stay and watch or drop off; the academy supervises the children. A free trial is not mentioned on the site: ask the academy.
