About Aspire ballet dubai
Aspire Ballet Dubai is a ballet school in its own 1,700 sq ft studio in Lynx Tower, Dubai Silicon Oasis, fitted with barres and mirrors. It teaches both the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus and the Russian Vaganova method, from a Stars class for children aged 3 and up through the RAD grades to advanced levels and pointe. The timetable also includes contemporary, jazz, Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT), repertoire and a boys' class, plus adult ballet in the evenings. The school was founded by Heba Mostafa, a former soloist with the Cairo Opera House Ballet Company, a RAD Registered Teacher and a regional tutor for PBT; RAD examiner Debra Colleen Gush is also listed on the school's teachers page. Students can sit RAD exams and perform in the school's stage shows, which have included Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Coppelia and Le Corsaire. The school also runs the Dubai International Dance Competition (DIDC). Classes run in three terms, after school on weekdays and through the weekend.
The activity
Ballet, explained
Ballet is classical dance built on a set vocabulary of positions and steps, practised first at the barre and then in the centre of the studio. Little ones start with musical, playful movement, posture and simple steps; older children work through graded levels, building strength, flexibility, balance and control, and later may move on to pointe work. Many schools in Dubai follow a structured syllabus such as the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), where children can sit graded exams, while others use the Russian Vaganova method. Children usually start from around three to five. Alongside technique, ballet builds discipline, musicality, focus and the confidence that comes from performing on stage.
Who it's for
Children from age 3 (Stars class) upwards: Pre-Primary is for age 5, Primary for age 6, junior classes for ages 6-9 depending on dance experience, senior contemporary from age 10, and PBT from age 7. Pointe and repertoire are from Grade 4 and above, depending on the child's skills, with the teacher's permission. There is a boys' ballet class, and levels run up to advanced for dancers aiming at a professional career. Adult ballet classes run in the evenings.
What to expect
Classes follow the RAD graded syllabus alongside Vaganova training, so a child joins the class for their age and level (Stars from 3, Pre-Primary at 5, Primary at 6, then the numbered grades). Pointe classes include barre exercises, centre floor work and across-the-floor combinations focused on strengthening the feet and ankles. Children who want to sit a RAD exam or Class Award need to attend twice a week, exam entry is at the teacher's discretion, and extra Sunday practice is needed before exams, competitions and shows. Students can move up a level from Term 3, after the RAD exams. Fees, trial classes and uniform are not published: ask the provider.
