AJAX Academy UAE is the official licensed partner of Dutch club AFC Ajax in the UAE, and describes itself as Ajax Amsterdam's first football academy outside the Netherlands. In Dubai, training takes place on the outdoor grass pitch at Dubai International Academy (DIA) in Al Barsha 1, on weekday evenings between 5PM and 9PM, grouped by age. The 2026/27 season is open to boys and girls from U5 to U16 (born 2011-2022) across three programmes: Development for children starting out, Advanced for players with some experience, and Elite, a selection squad that trains three times a week and plays league matches. The academy says its coaches are UEFA-certified and come from the Ajax youth academy in Amsterdam, and it keeps groups small, from 8 places at U6 to 16 at U13-U16. Private 1-on-1, duo and trio sessions and a goalkeeper programme run alongside the terms. Everything starts with a free tryout, booked on the website. There is also a newer site in Sharjah, at Raffles World Academy in Aljada.

The activity

Football, explained

Football for kids is all about touches on the ball: dribbling, passing, receiving and shooting, then learning where to stand and when to move as part of a team. Sessions usually mix technical drills with small-sided games, so children get plenty of ball contact rather than waiting in lines. Along the way they build coordination, speed, stamina and confidence, plus the habits of teamwork - listening to a coach, backing up team-mates and coping with a loss. Many academies start children at around four or five with playful, game-based sessions, then move them into age groups (U8, U10 and so on, set by birth year) and, for keener players, selection squads that play league matches.

Who it's for

Boys and girls aged 5 to 16 - U5 to U16 for the 2026/27 season, players born 2011-2022. Development suits children just starting their football journey; Advanced is for players with some experience who want to level up; Elite is for the strongest players in each age group and needs a tryout. Private sessions are open to ages 6 and up.

What to expect

Start with a free tryout, booked on the website - the academy offers a free trial class for every age group. Sessions run on the outdoor grass pitch at DIA Al Barsha and last 60-75 minutes depending on age; Elite squads train three times a week. Coaching follows the Ajax style of play, aiming to make each player 'a creative master of the ball'. Training is cancelled for rain, sandstorms or thunderstorms, with no refund or credit; sessions missed through illness or injury can be made up next term with a doctor's note. Coaches evaluate every player each term on the parent portal. Players wear the academy's Adidas uniform; new players' AED 1,500 annual membership includes home and training kits.
