The activity

Dance, explained

Dance classes build rhythm, coordination, flexibility and confidence through structured movement, whether that's classical ballet technique, contemporary and jazz choreography, or street styles. Younger children usually start with fun, movement-based sessions that introduce basic positions and musicality, progressing to technique-focused classes and choreography as they get older. Many studios also offer gymnastics and stretching alongside dance to build overall flexibility. Classes are typically grouped by age and level, running weekly across a term with the option to perform in a showcase.

Who it's for

Kids, teens and adults of all levels; the gymnastics programme is aimed at preschoolers. Class placement is decided by the teacher based on age or ability.

What to expect

Classes last 45 or 60 minutes, including time for registration and handover. Parents do not sit in on regular classes; Open Day classes are the exception. The correct uniform and footwear are needed by the third class, so a child can start before buying kit. Fees are paid before or on the first day of class, and a one-time 150 AED registration fee applies. Missed classes can be swapped for a make-up class (up to 2 a term) if you tell the studio in advance. Ask the provider whether a trial class is available.
