The activity
Gymnastics, explained
Gymnastics builds strength, flexibility, balance and coordination through floor work, basic tumbling and apparatus such as beam and bars, introduced gradually as confidence grows. Sessions are usually built around a warm-up, skill drills and short routines, with coaches spotting children through new moves. It is a strong foundation sport: dance, diving, climbing and many team sports draw on the body control it teaches. Many clubs start children in beginner or parent-and-child groups at pre-school age and move them into structured levels as they progress, so ask each club which group suits your child.
Who it's for
Children aged 1.5 to 16, according to the academy's Instagram. Baby classes are parent-and-toddler sessions for ages 1.5-3; gymnastics, parkour, karate and fitness are for older children. The academy's posts say its programmes are for boys and girls. The registration form asks for your child's current level, so ask the provider which group suits your child.
What to expect
You sign up online: the academy's registration form asks for your child's name, date of birth, current level and any medical notes, the programme you want, and a parent's name, email and phone number. Classes take place in the school's indoor sports hall, which the Google listing photo shows set out with gymnastics mats, low beams, a wedge mat and hoops. The academy's own videos show beginners working on basic gymnastics skills such as the bridge, flexibility and reaction-speed drills. Ask the provider for class times, what your child should wear and whether a trial session is offered.
