Dance, explained

Dance classes teach children rhythm, coordination and expression through structured movement, starting with basic steps and body awareness before building into choreography. Kathak, a classical dance form from North India, adds fast footwork, spins, hand gestures and storytelling, so children practise counting beats and remembering sequences as well as moving. Bollywood and semi-classical styles mix classical steps with film-song choreography, while hip hop and salsa bring different rhythms and freestyle or partner work. Regular practice builds fitness, focus and confidence. Dance movement therapy uses movement to support a child's emotional, social and physical development. The right starting age depends on the style and the child, so ask the school which group would suit yours.
