Ballroom dancing for children is partnered dancing split into two families: Standard (Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Quickstep and Viennese Waltz) and Latin (Samba, Rumba, Cha-Cha, Paso Doble and Jive). Kids learn the basic steps of each dance, good posture, timing to the music and how to move with a partner. A typical class runs through a warm-up, step and technique practice, then putting figures together into a short routine. Along the way it builds coordination, rhythm, balance and confidence in front of others. Children who get hooked can go on to dance at competitions, where they are judged on technique and presentation.
