About Taekwondo Academy

Taekwondo Academy is the taekwondo programme run by Leading Sports L.L.C., a Dubai sports company, with classes at Hartland International School in Sobha Hartland, Nad Al Sheba. There are two groups: Junior Taekwondo for ages 7 to 11, and a Teen class for ages 12 to 17 that also takes adults. Both train on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, juniors from 5 to 6PM and teens from 6 to 7PM. The curriculum runs through four levels (foundations, technique, poomsae and sparring) and a belt path from White through Yellow, Green, Blue and Red to Black, with belts awarded at formal assessments rather than for attendance. Junior classes focus on balance, coordination, kicks, pad work, patience and respect. The academy says its instructors hold Kukkiwon certifications and that Leading Sports is approved by the Dubai Sports Council. Founder and instructor Ammar Ahmed is a Pakistani and UAE national taekwondo champion. Beginners are welcome, and it is rated 5.0 on Google from 11 reviews.

The activity

Martial Arts, explained

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art known for its high, fast kicks and quick footwork, and it has been an Olympic sport since 2000. Children learn stances, blocks and kicks, then move on to poomsae (set patterns of moves) and, later, controlled sparring with protective gear. Alongside fitness, balance and coordination, classes lean heavily on courtesy, self-control and perseverance, so it suits children who like clear rules and visible progress. Progress is marked by coloured belts earned at formal gradings, which gives kids a concrete goal to work towards. Starting ages vary by club, so check each academy's own age bands.

Who it's for

Children aged 7 to 11 (Junior Taekwondo) and 12 to 17 (Teens); students aged 12 and over, including adults, train in the Teen & Adult group. Junior classes start at age seven, so it is not for under-7s. No previous experience is needed: beginners are welcome and experienced students are placed at the right level. Boys and girls are not listed separately, and special needs support is not published - ask the provider.

What to expect

Juniors train for an hour from 5 to 6PM and teens from 6 to 7PM, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Hartland International School. Junior sessions are fun, structured classes built around balance, coordination, kicks, pad work, patience and respect; teens do more technical and physical work such as kicking combinations, fitness, poomsae and footwork. Children can come in comfortable sportswear at first, and the academy shares uniform (dobok) details once one is needed. Contact is introduced gradually, and free sparring starts only from Green Belt, with protective gear. To register, email the academy or use its contact form with your child's name and age. Whether a trial class is offered, and fees, are not published - ask the provider.
