The activity
Dance, explained
Dance classes give children a structured way to build rhythm, coordination, fitness and confidence while learning choreography in a particular style - from classical forms with precise footwork and storytelling to high-energy styles built around group routines. Younger children usually start with simplified steps and games that build musicality and basic movement vocabulary, while older kids progress to full routines, technique drills and sometimes performance opportunities such as recitals or camps. Classes are typically grouped by age or ability, and many studios also run themed holiday camps. It's commonly started from toddler age for movement and music appreciation, with more technical styles usually picked up from around age 5-6.
