About Sustainable City Equestrian Club

Sustainable City Equestrian Club is a riding school off Al Qudra Road in The Sustainable City, next to Arabian Ranches 2. It teaches English-style riding to adults and children, with a Mini Riders group for ages 2-4 and children's group lessons at beginner (A1-A3) and intermediate (B1-B3) levels. The club has four large outdoor sand and grass riding schools, 45 school horses to suit a range of abilities, a viewing area for parents, and a four-kilometre hacking track around The Sustainable City. Its instructors are British Horse Society qualified, and riders are assessed by the instructors and placed in a group and on a horse to match their ability. Beyond weekly lessons there is an after-school package of riding plus stable management, pony day camps in the school holidays, shows through the year and pony birthday parties. It's rated 4.6 on Google from 188 reviews.

The activity

Horse Riding, explained

Horse riding lessons teach children to sit, steer and control a pony or horse under an instructor, starting at walk and building towards trot and canter as they progress. Alongside riding, many schools teach stable management: grooming, tacking up, leading and feeding. Riding builds balance, core strength, coordination and confidence, and caring for a large animal teaches patience and responsibility. Lessons usually run in small groups or one-to-one on school horses chosen to suit the rider's size and ability, and riders wear a helmet and proper footwear. Many riding schools offer lead-rein sessions for very young children before they ride independently.

Who it's for

Children and adults. The club's price list has a Mini Riders group for ages 2-4 and children's groups at Beginners (A1-A3) and Intermediate (B1-B3) level; its homepage describes lessons for children aged 3 and upwards. Riders are assessed and placed by the instructors, and there is a rider weight limit of 70-75kg. Ask the provider about support for children with additional needs.

What to expect

New riders register once (AED 200 + VAT), sign a waiver, and report to the office on arrival. An instructor assesses your child and places them in a group on a school horse suited to their ability. Riders need an approved riding helmet, jodhpurs or long trousers, proper riding footwear and, for 15s and under, an approved safety vest. Lessons are sold in 10-lesson cards, valid for 12 weeks; riders more than 10 minutes late cannot ride, and cancellations need 24 hours' notice to the office. Ask the provider whether a single taster lesson is possible.
