Skateraati Roller Skating at DAMAC Hills 1
About Skateraati
Skateraati runs roller skating classes for children at venues across Dubai, from Jumeirah Lake Towers and Academic City to Town Square, plus Sharjah and Ajman. The club describes itself as the UAE's first official roller skating company. Its foundation programme is a group class for children above four who are just starting out: they learn how to put on and lace skates, how to fall and get back up, then pushing, rolling, basic stops and turns. From there, children move up through named levels (Cheetah Chariots for beginners, Falcon Pack for intermediates and Missile Launchers for advanced skaters) with a certificate at each stage, and the club encourages older skaters to try local club competitions. The DAMAC Hills 1 branch, at the Malibu Bay Beach Basketball Court, offers both group and private coaching. The club says helmets, pads and protective gear are provided and its instructors are trained in first aid and CPR. Prices and class times are not published, so message the club to book the free trial and ask for the current timetable at your branch.
The activity
Roller Skating, explained
Roller skating classes teach children to move safely on wheels, starting with the basics: standing up in skates, balancing, pushing off, gliding, stopping and turning. Beginners spend a lot of time falling and getting back up in the right way, wearing a helmet and pads, before they build speed. Once the basics click, skaters move on to crossovers, braking drills and styles such as speed, slalom or artistic skating. Along the way children build balance, leg strength, stamina and coordination, plus the confidence that comes from mastering something a little scary. Many clubs in Dubai take children from about four years old, when balance and listening skills are usually ready for a group class.
Who it's for
Children from 4 years old (the club's programme pages say 4 to 18 years), from complete beginners to advanced skaters. The online sign-up form offers age bands of 3.5-5, 5-7, 8-11 and 12-18 years; ask the club whether under-4s can join. Group coaching is the main format; ask your branch whether private coaching is available there.
What to expect
A first class for a beginner starts gently: the coaches check skate fit and lacing, talk through a little theory, and practise falling safely and getting back up before rolling. Then children work on pushing off, gliding, basic stops and turning. The club provides helmets, pads and protective gear, and says it provides skates for its foundation group class; check this for your child's session. A free trial is offered through the club's registration form. Prices, session length and class times are not published - ask the club, and ask whether your branch's court is covered or shaded.
