Sharp Abacus Learning School, International City: abacus classes for kids
About Sharp Abacus Learning School
Sharp Abacus Learning School is a centre of SharpAbacus, an ISO 9001:2015 certified abacus programme that started as an Indian EdTech company and now runs franchise centres in several countries. There are centres in International City in Dubai and in Al Nahda, Al Qasimiah (Abu Shagara) and Muwaileh in Sharjah. Children learn abacus and rapid mental calculation, with the programme promising better memory, concentration and focus. The Abacus Regular Course is for children aged 4-14 and runs through 8 levels, from Yellow Belt to Black Belt, so kids can see their progress as they move up. SharpAbacus says it keeps batches small, and families can choose online, in-person or hybrid learning. The branch pages also list a Vedic Maths course; ask the centre about ages and availability. A free demo class is available before signing up, booked through SharpAbacus head office. Across the network, SharpAbacus reports 5,000+ students taught, 250+ certified teachers, 12+ school partnerships and a presence in 15+ countries.
The activity
Abacus, explained
Abacus classes teach children mental arithmetic using the abacus, a bead-frame counting tool. Kids first learn to add and subtract by moving beads on a real abacus, then gradually picture the beads in their head so they can calculate without one - a skill often called anzan. Along the way, schools say it builds speed and accuracy with numbers, concentration and memory. Classes usually run in small groups grouped by level, with children moving up through graded stages as the sums get harder. Many schools take children from the early primary years, once they recognise numbers comfortably.
Who it's for
