About Seed Special Education Center
SEED (Social-Educational-Emotional Development) is a special education centre in the Emirates Red Crescent Building in Al Garhoud, set up by the NIMS Group of Schools. It works with children and adolescents with communication disorders, feeding difficulties, learning difficulties, autism, ADHD, Down's syndrome, and behaviour and emotional difficulties. Sessions are one-to-one or in very small groups, and everything is by appointment. Its detailed psycho-educational assessments are carried out by a team of psychologists, special educators and a behaviourist, with a written report that the school can use for learning plans and exam access arrangements. Alongside assessment it offers speech and language therapy, feeding therapy, behaviour intervention and special education covering reading, writing, handwriting, maths, motor skills and everyday skills such as eating, dressing and toileting. It is not a special school: it offers sessions to children individually or in very small groups. Parents get training too, and the centre partners with schools on inclusion.
The activity
Special Needs Centres, explained
A special education centre supports children who learn, communicate or behave differently, for example children with autism, ADHD, Down's syndrome, speech delay or learning difficulties. It usually starts with an assessment: specialists watch, test and talk with the child and parents to understand where they are strong and where they struggle. From there, therapists plan one-to-one or small-group sessions, such as speech and language therapy, behaviour support or educational therapy for reading, writing and maths. The aim is practical progress in daily life and at school, with parents kept closely involved. Many families start as soon as a school, doctor or nursery raises a concern.
Who it's for
Children and adolescents with special needs, including communication disorders, speech delay, stuttering, feeding difficulties, learning difficulties, autism, ADHD, Down's syndrome, and behaviour and emotional difficulties. No age range is published: ask the provider.
What to expect
Everything at SEED is by appointment. SEED's FAQ says most families first meet the Chief Consultant for about 60 minutes; he then suggests an assessment, an intervention, or a referral to a neurologist or psychiatrist. Bring a referral letter from the school or doctor, medical reports and scans, earlier assessment and school reports, and copies of your and your child's Emirates ID. The FAQ puts a full psycho-educational assessment at least 3 to 6 hours over one or two days, plus 1 to 2 hours if speech and language is assessed, with the report ready within 7 days and collected in person. Confirm these details when booking. Fees and trial sessions: ask the provider.
