About SeaYou Watersport Center

SeaYou Watersports is a non-motorised watersports company that says it was established in 2013. Its flagship centre is on the beach at Rixos The Palm, on the East Crescent of Palm Jumeirah; it also runs a seasonal sailing school at Dubai Creek Harbour and a shop in Al Quoz. For children, the main draw is SeaYouth Sailing: weekly classes at the Palm Jumeirah centre through the season in four levels, from first-timers to children sailing solo and in pairs. At the end of each term skills are tested, and there is a mini regatta with prizes and certificates. SeaYou also runs school-holiday camps for children from age 4, mixing sailing, kayaking, windsurfing and stand-up paddle (ask where the camp runs), and beach birthday parties at Palm Jumeirah or Dubai Creek Harbour. Sailing needs wind: with none, a class can be cancelled or swapped for kayaking or paddleboarding. Term, camp and party prices are not published, but private one-hour dinghy lessons at the Palm are priced on the site.

The activity

Sailing, explained

Dinghy sailing is where most children start on the water: small, stable boats that one or two young sailors learn to steer themselves, with an instructor close by. Early sessions cover rigging the boat, the parts of the boat, how wind direction decides where you can go, sailing upwind and downwind, and what to do if the boat tips over. It builds balance, teamwork and a lot of confidence, because children are making real decisions on the water. Many clubs start children at around five or six, but it depends on how comfortable your child is in water, so a trial session is a sensible first step.

Who it's for

Children who want to learn to sail, from complete beginners (Level 1) up to Level 4, placed by experience after a recommended trial class; SeaYou also lists a windsurf option in its youth sailing sign-up. Holiday camps take children as young as 4. Ages for the weekly sailing classes are not published: ask the provider. Boys and girls both register through the same form. Taught in English for SeaYouth Sailing; the camps are listed in English and French.

What to expect

SeaYou recommends a trial class first so the instructors can see your child's ability and place them in the right level. Over a term, children learn to rig the boat, sail upwind and downwind, read the wind, learn the parts of the boat and catamaran, practise capsizing, and sail solo and in pairs. SeaYou provides qualified instructors, at least one lifeguard on duty, a life vest, drinking water and a changing room. Bring a sun hat or cap, sunglasses, high-SPF sunblock and a rashguard. No wind can mean kayaking or paddleboarding instead. Trial class price: ask the provider; private one-hour dinghy lessons with an instructor are AED 230 each (seayou.ae, February 2025).
