About Reach Child Development & Family Support Centre
Reach Child Development & Family Support Centre, known as REACH, is a centre in Al Warqa 2 for children with additional needs, developmental and speech delays, learning difficulties and behavioural, social or emotional challenges. It works with children aged 6 months to 12 years, in English and in Arabic. There are two main routes: a full day care programme for ages 6 months to 7 years, with specialised sessions built into the day, and tailor-made programmes for ages 5 to 12 covering screening, special education classes, behaviour modification, speech and communication therapy, occupational therapy and play therapy. REACH also works inside schools and early childhood centres through shadow teaching and in-class special educator support. The centre says it is licensed by KHDA, CDA and DHA. Alongside the children's services it runs Triple P parenting courses, parent coffee mornings and Parent & Child Mornings. Every family starts with a free consultation with one of the centre's child psychologists. It is rated 4.3 on Google from 12 reviews.
The activity
Early Intervention, explained
Early intervention is support for young children with developmental delays or additional needs, such as speech and language, motor skills, learning, behaviour or social communication. Rather than a group class, it usually starts with an assessment and then a plan built around the individual child, delivered in regular sessions with specialists such as speech therapists, occupational therapists or special educators. Many families come after a paediatrician or nursery raises a concern, and plenty come straight from a parent who has noticed a delay. It can begin in the baby and toddler years and often runs alongside nursery or school. Each centre offers a different mix of therapies, so ask which ones it provides and in which languages.
Who it's for
Children aged 6 months to 12 years with additional needs, developmental or speech delays, learning difficulties, or behavioural, social or emotional challenges. Full day care is for ages 6 months to 7 years; tailor-made programmes are for ages 5 to 12. Services are in English and Arabic. Parents and carers can join the centre's parenting courses and workshops.
What to expect
The first step is a free consultation with one of REACH's child psychologists. Together you go through your child's full developmental and medical history, and you then get a recommended assessment plan if one is needed. Children in the full day care programme have specialised sessions built into their day; when they are ready, some start joining regular classes at one of the centre's sister early childhood centres for inclusion sessions that begin at 30 minutes a day, monitored by a REACH psychologist. Session lengths, timetables and fees are not published, so ask the provider. The centre accepts Tabby and Tamara payments.
