PSA (Professional Sports Academy) coaches badminton for children and teens at school and club venues across Dubai, from Dubai Investment Park and Al Wasl to Barsha 3 and Oud Metha. Its main kids' programme is Flexi: term-based group coaching for ages 6-18 who play recreationally. It follows the school calendar, and you buy only as many classes as you need, pick how often your child comes week by week and choose your time slots. Sessions last 60 or 120 minutes depending on the venue, booked classes can be moved or cancelled up to 48 hours ahead, and players get periodic progress reports. PSA also runs the Squad Programme, a competitive pathway for ages 8-18 by assessment, at Barsha 3 and Oud Metha, and private coaching at a venue of your choice in Dubai. PSA says it has taught badminton in Dubai since 2012, and your child can try one Flexi session free. Pick a venue on this page for its days and times.

The activity

Badminton, explained

Badminton is a fast, non-contact racket sport played with a feather shuttlecock over a net. In a kids' class, players work on grip, footwork, serving and the main strokes through drills, then put them together in rallies and games. It builds hand-eye coordination, speed, agility, balance and reaction time, and because it is quick to pick up, beginners get into proper rallies early. Group classes mix skill work with physical conditioning suited to each age, and many children go on to play for years, just for fun or competitively. At PSA, the children's group programmes start at age 6.

Who it's for

Children and teens aged 6-18 who want to play badminton recreationally, beginners included, in the Flexi Programme. The invitation-only Squad Programme (ages 8-18, by assessment) runs at Barsha 3 and Oud Metha. Sibling and PSA member discounts of 20% are listed for the Flexi venues, and some schools list 10% off for their own students.

What to expect

Your child's first Flexi session is free, with no obligation: if they don't want to come back, you pay nothing. Flexi sessions include age-appropriate physical conditioning alongside badminton coaching. Bring a badminton racket, sports clothes, well-fitting sports shoes (it's a stop-start game with lots of quick changes of direction) and a water bottle. Classes must be booked at least 120 minutes ahead and are subject to availability. Session length, days and prices differ by venue, so check the venue you pick. Ask the provider about group sizes.
