The activity

Padel, explained

Padel is a fast racket sport played in doubles on a small court enclosed by glass walls and mesh. Players use a short, solid, stringless racket and a low-pressure ball, serve underarm, and can play the ball off the walls, a bit like squash. Because the court is small and the serve is easy, beginners get proper rallies going within their first session, which keeps children keen. It builds hand-eye coordination, footwork, quick reactions and teamwork, since you always play with a partner. Children often start with mini-rackets and softer balls from around primary-school age, then move to group coaching as they grow; each club sets its own age bands.
