The activity
Indian Classical Dance, explained
Bharatanatyam is one of India's oldest classical dance forms, from Tamil Nadu in the south. Children learn a basic stance with bent knees, rhythmic footwork stamped in time with spoken syllables, hand gestures called mudras and facial expression, then put these together into short pieces that tell stories from Indian myths. It builds posture, balance, stamina, rhythm and memory, and many schools prepare pupils for graded exams and stage performances. Lessons are usually barefoot, in comfortable clothes or a simple practice sari. Every school sets its own starting age, so ask the teacher before booking.
Who it's for
Children and adults, from beginners to advanced students; the school says its courses cater to all ages and skill levels. No age bands or minimum starting age are published on the course pages, so ask the provider which age your child can start at for each course.
What to expect
Your first class can be a free trial: fill in the short form on the website (name, phone and the course you want) or call or WhatsApp 058 567 0605.
