About Naatyashala Fine Arts Training

Naatyashala Fine Arts Training is an Indian dance studio founded by dance teacher Sruthi Ranganath, and it describes itself as Dubai's first semi-classical Indian dance studio. For children, the website lists Bharatanatyam in foundation, intermediate and advanced groups, Semi-Classical, and Bollywood split into a 4-7 group and a 7+ group, plus ballet from age 3 and contemporary for teens. Beyond dance, the studio teaches piano, guitar, violin and Hindustani vocal, drawing, embroidery and Arabic, and runs spring, summer and winter camps for kids and teens. Its contact page lists three studios: Dubailand Residence Complex (Wadi Al Safa 5), Hemaya School in Al Karama and IT Plaza in Dubai Silicon Oasis. The ballet, contemporary, music and camp pages place those classes at an Al Qusais studio, and the timetable does not say which studio each batch runs at, so ask before you go.

The activity

Dance, explained

Indian classical dance such as Bharatanatyam is built on set steps (adavus), hand gestures, precise footwork and posture, and telling a story through movement and facial expression. Semi-classical dance keeps those foundations but blends them with simpler, more modern steps, while Bollywood dance mixes traditional moves with film-style choreography and plenty of energy. Children practise dancing in time to the rhythm, which builds coordination, balance, stamina and stage confidence. Ballet works differently, starting with the five classical positions, barre work and alignment. In most styles children move up through levels, working towards a first performance.

Who it's for

Children, teens and adults. Kids' dance groups on the website: Bharatanatyam Kids Foundation, Kids Intermediate and Kids Advanced; Semi-Classical for kids; Bollywood Small Kids (4-7 yrs) and Bollywood Big Kids (7+ yrs); Ballet from age 3 and Contemporary for teens, both at the Al Qusais studio. The dance classes page lists Bollykathak, Hip-Hop and Taalfit under adults, so ask if a kids' group is running. Starting ages for Bharatanatyam and Semi-Classical aren't given - ask the provider.

What to expect

Kids' Bharatanatyam starts with basic theory, the first steps (adavu), hand gestures, footwork and posture, then adds expressive storytelling and dancing in time to the rhythm, with mentor support towards a first performance. Bollywood classes cover timing, rhythm, coordination and facial expression, and welcome beginners; no costume is needed, just comfortable t-shirts, leggings or track pants. Semi-Classical has no set dress code, only clothes that let your child move freely. Ballet follows a level-by-level syllabus in small batches; a leotard and ballet shoes are ideal, but any comfortable fitted clothing works for the trial. The first ballet and contemporary trial class is free. The Dubailand Residence Complex studio has free parking.
