About MPAC Sports

MPAC Sports is a basketball academy with its own indoor centre on 25A Street in Al Quoz 1. The club says it was founded in Chicago in 2002 by Luqman Rashad and launched in the Gulf in 2007. Its academy trains children from age 2.5 up to 18, and adults too, in levels that run from Beginners through Intermediate B, Intermediate A and Mid-Level to an invite-only Next Level group. The youngest children start in Ball N' Babies and toddler classes built around jumping, throwing, catching and coordination games. There is an all-girls programme and a youth league with divisions for 5-7, 8-11, 12-14, 15-18 and girls 12+, open to MPAC and non-MPAC players. The centre's courts are air-conditioned with hardwood floors, and there is a parent lounge by the courts. You can book a free first session online before signing up for a term.

The activity

Basketball, explained

Basketball is a fast team game played five-a-side on an indoor court, and it suits children who like to run, jump and be part of a team. Early sessions are mostly play: throwing, catching, bouncing the ball and simple movement games that build coordination. As children grow they learn dribbling with both hands, passing, footwork and shooting technique, then start playing small-sided games and full matches. Along the way it builds fitness, balance, quick decision-making and the habit of working with teammates. Many academies start children in toddler groups and move them into age and skill levels once the basics click.

Who it's for

Children from age 2.5 to 18 in the academy (the Al Quoz spring 2026 timetable also listed an Ages 2-3 class), grouped by age (2-3, toddlers 3-5, 5-7, 8-11, 12-18) and by skill level from complete beginners to invite-only advanced players. Boys and girls; there is an all-girls programme, and the spring 2026 timetable had all-girls beginner and team-training groups. Adult classes (18+) run separately.

What to expect

Your child can try a free session first: the club's booking form asks for your emirate and your child's age, and the free session covers ages 2-18+. Beginners work on the fundamentals of passing, dribbling, shooting and footwork, while the youngest groups learn through jumping, throwing, catching and team games. Sessions on the Al Quoz timetable were mostly one hour. After the trial, a place is only confirmed once the term is paid in full and forms are in, and payment is not taken at the academy itself. Missed classes can be made up within the same term if there is space. What to wear and bring: ask the provider.
