About Mimo's Art Studio
Mimo's Art Studio is an art studio in a villa in District 7, Jumeirah Park, set up by May Madbouly, an Egyptian visual artist and art educator in Dubai who first trained as an interior designer. May leads the classes herself. The studio's website says they suit all skill levels: students start with the fundamentals of sketching, then move on to other mediums, covering colour theory, composition, perspective and shading through hands-on projects. On Instagram the studio describes itself as a space where young minds explore, make mistakes and find their own artistic voice. In August 2026 May welcomed back her 'little artists' for a September 2026 term called 'Back to Art. But Different.', built around four projects about each student's own world in pencil, charcoal, acrylic, watercolour and pastel. She also helps students build art portfolios as they prepare for university. Ages, class times and fees are not published, so message the studio to ask which group fits your child.
The activity
Art Classes, explained
Art classes give children time to explore drawing, painting and other visual techniques in a studio, guided by an instructor. Sessions usually build skills step by step, from mark-making and colour to composition and technique, and give children a creative outlet outside school. Studios differ a lot in format, from weekly classes to one-off workshops, and in the ages they take, so it is worth asking each studio which groups it runs and whether a child needs any art experience before joining.
Who it's for
Young artists: the studio says on Instagram that some students arrive with confidence and others hold a pencil for the very first time, and its website says the classes suit beginners and those with some experience. May also helps older students build portfolios as they prepare for university, and writes that she has extended her teaching to children with special needs. Ask the provider: ages and whether groups are split by age are not published.
What to expect
The studio's Art Classes page says lessons start with the fundamentals of sketching and gradually move on to other mediums and techniques, with topics such as colour theory, composition, perspective and shading. Classes are hands-on, built around practical exercises and projects, and May gives personalised feedback as students work. The September 2026 term, 'Back to Art. But Different.', runs four projects: My World in Objects, My World in Colours, My Secret Space and The September Piece, using canvas, acrylic, watercolour, pastel, charcoal and pencil. Ask the provider: class length, group size, fees and whether a trial session is offered are not published.
