About Karate Pro Martial Arts Academy

Karate Pro Martial Arts Academy describes itself as an official branch of the Japan Karate Association (JKA) in Tokyo, teaching traditional JKA Shotokan karate, and says it is approved by the UAE Karate Federation and the General Authority of Youth and Sports. It has three branches: Al Nahda 2 and Dubai Silicon Oasis in Dubai, and Al Majaz 3 in Sharjah. Children are grouped by age: Young Children from 3, Kids from 4.5 and Teenagers from 12, with a black-belt pathway and proper gradings. All three timetables include kickboxing for kids or juniors and teens, and the academy offers private lessons, including sessions for children with developmental or learning challenges. Weekday classes run in the afternoon and evening, with morning classes at the weekend. Your child's first session is a free trial.

The activity

Martial Arts, explained

Karate is a Japanese martial art built on punches, kicks and blocks, practised through basics (kihon), set patterns (kata) and controlled partner work (kumite). Children train barefoot on the mat, follow the instructor's count and work towards coloured belts through gradings, so there is always a clear next step. Along the way it builds coordination, balance, listening and self-control, and gives shy children a structured way to grow in confidence. Shotokan, the style taught here, is known for strong stances and long, direct techniques. Some clubs start children as young as three with games-based classes; check the age bands with each club before booking.

Who it's for

Children from age 3: Young Children (3+) is a games-based introduction, Kids (4.5+) covers traditional karate with gradings and tournament opportunities, and Teenagers (12+) builds focus and leadership. Each branch's timetable groups kids and juniors or teens a little differently, and also lists kickboxing for kids, juniors or teens. Adult batches and women-only classes are offered too (ask your branch for times), and private lessons are available for children with developmental or learning challenges.

What to expect

The first session is a free trial, so your child can watch, join in and you can decide before you enrol. Book it by WhatsApp or phone through your branch, or drop by during the scheduled class for your child's age group. There is no special kit for the trial: comfortable clothes and a water bottle are enough. Classes last an hour, with a shorter 30-minute slot for the youngest group (3:30-4pm). Classes are grouped by age and stage, and students follow a black-belt pathway with gradings. Ask the provider about uniform and fees once your child decides to continue.
