About Jam Sports Academy - Oud Metha
Jam Sports Academy runs basketball training for children and teens in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. This branch trains at AFLEC School (Al Nasr Club) in Oud Metha. The academy says it takes players aged 4 to 18, in mixed U6 and U8 groups and then boys' and girls' teams from U10 up to U18. Not every team trains here: on the academy's April 2025 timetable, the Oud Metha sessions cover U6 and U8, girls' teams from U10 to U18, the other U12 teams and U14 boys' teams, while boys' U10 teams train at another venue. It also runs Supergirls teams for girls aged 10 and up, and programmes for athletes with special needs. The academy has grown from 12 players to over 900, and it won Best Youth Academy of the Year at the SPIA Awards in 2022. You can book a free trial on WhatsApp. On Google it has a 4.8 rating from 160 reviews.
The activity
Basketball, explained
Youth basketball teaches ball handling, dribbling, passing, shooting and team play. Younger children start with coordination games and simple ball skills, then move on to positions, defence and match tactics as they get older. Sessions usually mix drills with small-sided games, so children are moving for most of the time. Basketball builds fitness, quick decision-making, confidence and teamwork, and it suits both boys and girls. Clubs usually group players by age band (U8, U10, U12 and so on) so children train with others at the same stage, and older players can go on to league and tournament games.
Who it's for
Children and teens aged 4 to 18. The U6 and U8 groups are mixed; from U10 to U18 the academy has separate boys' and girls' teams, grouped by birth year. At Oud Metha, the April 2025 timetable lists U6, U8, girls' U10 to U18, the other U12 teams and U14 boys' teams; boys' U10 teams trained at another venue, and U16/U18 at Oud Metha were girls' teams. The Supergirls teams are for girls aged 10 and up. The academy also runs programmes for athletes with special needs (People of Determination).
What to expect
Start with a free trial, booked on WhatsApp. On the academy's April 2025 timetable for AFLEC in Oud Metha, team sessions last an hour and a half, and most groups train on Saturday and Sunday, with some older teams also training on Friday. Families choose two or three sessions a week, paid monthly or for three months at a time. The team uniform is a jersey, shorts and a reversible bib with name printing, and it is sold separately, as is a ball. Ask the provider for the current timetable and what your child should wear and bring to the trial.
