Impact Talent Centre Dubai: UCMAS abacus, dance, music and more in Oud Metha
About Impact Talent Centre
Impact Talent Centre is a multi-activity centre for children on the 5th floor of Al Nasr Plaza in Oud Metha. Founder Rema Nair set it up in 2013, and it runs a long list of after-school programmes under one roof: UCMAS abacus, dance, music, taekwondo, handwriting improvement, public speaking, and English and Arabic language courses. The UCMAS abacus programme is for ages 5 to 12 and works through progressive levels of mental maths. Dance covers Indian classical (Bharatanatyam and Kathak), Bollywood and semi-classical, and contemporary and freestyle, from age 4, with annual stage performances. Music lessons are keyboard, guitar and violin from age 5, with one-to-one and group options, and the centre says it is associated with Trinity College London. Taekwondo, public speaking and handwriting take children from 4 or 5 upwards. For a family with children of different ages, it means one address for several activities. Joining starts with a free orientation with parents, then an optional free 30-minute trial class.
The activity
Abacus, explained
Abacus classes teach children to do sums on a simple bead frame, sliding beads up and down to add, subtract and later multiply and divide. As they get faster, they learn to picture the abacus in their head and calculate mentally, without the frame or a calculator. Lessons mix short drills, speed exercises and games, and children move up through levels as their skills grow. Parents usually look at abacus for concentration, memory, number confidence and speed with mental maths. Most programmes start children somewhere between four and six, once they can recognise numbers and sit at a table for a focused half hour or so.
Who it's for
Children from age 4, depending on the programme: UCMAS abacus 5 to 12 years; Indian classical and Bollywood dance 4 years and above; handwriting improvement 4 years and above (the centre says adults can join too); music (keyboard, guitar, violin) 5 years and above; public speaking 5+; taekwondo 5 years and above. English and Arabic courses run at elementary (beginner), intermediate and advanced levels; ages for these are not published, so ask the provider.
What to expect
Joining has three steps. First comes a free orientation and skill discovery session: the teachers meet your child, parents take part, and together you work out which programme suits them. Next, your child can try an optional free 30-minute trial class to meet the teacher and other children. After that the centre helps you pick a programme and a schedule that fits your week. Class times, group sizes and what to bring are not published, so ask the provider. Registration and admission fees are non-refundable once enrolled, and missed classes are not refunded, though make-up sessions can be requested depending on the instructor's availability.
