Swimming lessons start with water confidence: getting in with help, blowing bubbles, floating and gliding, then kicking and the first strokes. Once a child can swim a length unaided, coaching moves on to technique across front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly, plus starts and turns. Children who enjoy it can go on to squad training and races, and some later add running and cycling for triathlon. Swimming works the whole body, builds coordination and stamina, and teaches a water-safety skill that matters in a city full of pools and beaches. Many swim schools take children from around three, grouping them by ability rather than age alone.
