The activity

Horse Riding, explained

Horse riding lessons teach children how to mount, sit, steer and control a horse. Beginners usually start at a walk, often on a lead rein, before moving on to trotting and riding on their own as balance and confidence grow. Many lessons begin with meeting and grooming the horse, so children get comfortable around a large animal before they ride. Riding builds core strength, balance, coordination and a sense of responsibility for the animal. Starting ages, helmet rules and group sizes vary from stable to stable, so it is worth asking before booking a first lesson.
