About Get Active Sports

Get Active Sports is a sports academy set up in the UAE in 2021 by Mahmoud Al Khatib, a former Syrian national basketball team player. It runs academies at Al Mawakeb School in Al Khawaneej, in The Villa Area and in JLT in Dubai, and at Golden Tulip Al Fardan Centre in Sharjah. At Al Khawaneej, inside the sports complex at Al Mawakeb School, it takes children aged 4 to 16: the current timetable has mixed basketball, a girls-only basketball group and football on Saturday late mornings and Monday evenings, plus swimming listed for all week days. Fees there are paid in blocks of 8 sessions, from AED 500 for football, with 12-session swimming packages too. Training happens in an air-conditioned indoor sports hall and the school pool, with a waiting area inside the hall where parents can watch. The Sharjah site is a gym and activity centre for children and adults, with swimming, gymnastics, Zumba, kickboxing and Muay Thai listed. Each branch has its own timetable and fees, so pick one on this page. The academy also runs holiday camps (Summer Camp 2026 was the latest listed).

The activity

Multi-Sports, explained

A multi-sports academy lets children try more than one sport under the same roof, usually in small groups led by a coach for each sport. Sessions tend to open with a warm-up and some stretching, move on to drills that build a particular skill, such as dribbling, passing or a swimming stroke, and finish with a game. Team sports like football and basketball teach children to share the ball, listen to a coach and play by the rules, while swimming builds water confidence and stamina. Many children start around four or five, often with one or two sessions a week, and settle on a favourite sport as they grow.

Who it's for

At Al Khawaneej, children aged 4 to 16. Basketball runs as a mixed group and a separate girls-only group; football and swimming groups are listed without a gender split. Age bands within each sport and levels are not published: ask the academy which group suits your child. The academy says it may move a child to another class that suits their skill level. The Sharjah page serves kids and adults without giving age ranges, so ask that branch what is open to your child.

What to expect

At Al Khawaneej, classes run as groups on the timetable, and the Saturday and Monday slots are one hour each. There are no free trial sessions, but the terms say a child can attend a first session: if you then enrol, it counts as the first day of the package; if you decide not to, that session is not charged. The academy's guidelines ask children to come well hydrated, in comfortable, breathable sportswear and supportive shoes, having had a light snack 30-60 minutes before longer sessions. Registration and full payment must be done before regular attendance. Kit for swimming and any team kit: ask the academy. Sharjah timetables and fees are not published on its page, so ask that branch.
