German Karate School Dubai — Karate Altinger
About Karate Altinger
German Karate School Dubai (Altinger Karate LLC) teaches karate to children at four venues in Dubai: Fitness First The Palm Dubai at Nakheel Mall, Zen Yoga at Jumeirah Park, Fitness First Mudon and Eka Mai at Port de La Mer. Each venue has its own weekday, and the Palm venue runs Wednesdays and Fridays. Across the school, the courses are Kids Karate (3-6 years), School Kids Karate (7-10 years) and Teens Karate (10+ years), plus VIP 1:1 private courses and self-defence courses. Classes run in small groups of around 15 children with 2 instructors. The school says it teaches traditional karate technique with music and adds a short theory element on safety rules and life skills. It also says Karate Altinger has taught children in Germany for more than 20 years and is certified by the Bavarian government as a state-recognised educational institution. Classes are offered in German and English, and new students can start with a free trial lesson.
The activity
Martial Arts, explained
Karate is a martial art from Japan built on stances, blocks, punches and kicks. Children learn techniques through drills, practise kata (set sequences of movements) and, as they progress, controlled work with a partner. Many schools use a coloured-belt system, so kids have clear goals and can see their own progress. Alongside fitness, balance and coordination, a karate class asks children to focus, listen to the instructor, keep self-control and respect their training partners, which is why parents of both shy and very lively children often look at it. Classes for the youngest are shorter and more playful; at this school the youngest group starts at 3.
Who it's for
Children from age 3. Age groups vary by venue: at Fitness First The Palm Dubai they are 3-5, 6-8 and 9+ years; at Jumeirah Park, Mudon and Port de La Mer they are 3-6 and 7-10+. Course names: Kids Karate (3-6), School Kids Karate (7-10), Teens Karate (10+), plus VIP 1:1 private and self-defence courses. Beginners and children with some experience are both welcome.
