The activity

Padel, explained

Padel is a racquet sport usually played in doubles on an enclosed court smaller than a tennis court, with the glass and mesh walls used as part of play. The solid, stringless racquet and smaller court mean children usually get rallies going quickly, while the sport builds hand-eye coordination, footwork and decision-making. FM Padel Academy describes its coaching as a 'Multicore Training System', a 360-degree approach covering technical, tactical, physical and mental development. Its pricing page lists Kids Training for ages 7 to 10 and Junior Training for ages 11 to 14, and its enquiry form also offers a Teens Group for ages 15 to 17.

Who it's for

Children aged 7 to 10 (Kids Training, groups of up to 4) and 11 to 14 (Junior Training, groups of up to 6), per the academy's pricing page, plus a Teens Group for ages 15 to 17 offered on its enquiry form. Adult group and private lessons are listed separately for ages 18+. The enquiry form covers beginners through to regular players. Whether the kids groups run at a particular club is not stated, so ask the academy.

What to expect

Kids Training and Junior Training sessions last 60 minutes in small groups (up to 4 for ages 7-10, up to 6 for ages 11-14). The academy describes its kids sessions as fun and engaging, aimed at learning skills and building confidence, with coaching that covers technique, tactics, fitness and the mental side of the game. The website does not publish session days or times, which club hosts the kids groups, a trial policy or what kit children need, so ask by phone, WhatsApp or email before the first visit. Its 'Get your promo' enquiry form asks for your child's level, availability and preferred location.
