The activity

Martial Arts, explained

Martial arts covers a family of combat sports and self-defence systems, such as karate, kickboxing, Muay Thai, boxing, judo, wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). Children learn technique through structured drills and partner work - striking styles focus on punches, kicks and footwork, while grappling styles like judo, wrestling and BJJ teach throws, holds and ground control. Alongside the physical skills, classes are built around discipline, respect and self-control, and many clubs use belts or grades to mark progress. Sessions build fitness, coordination and confidence, and many clubs take children from around four or five years old.

Who it's for

Students aged 4 to 60 - kids, teenagers and adults - at all levels from beginner to advanced athlete; girls-only classes led by female coaches; and an inclusive programme for people with autism, ADHD and other developmental needs, run by certified special needs martial arts coaches.

What to expect

New members can book a free trial class, so your child can try a session before you commit. Classes on the academy's booking page are listed at one hour each, across boxing, BJJ, grappling, judo, karate, kickboxing and Muay Thai, plus a ladies-only boxing class. Programmes are structured for all levels, so beginners are welcome, and the academy says its training focuses on discipline, respect, focus and self-control as well as fitness. Prices, packages and the class timetable aren't posted on the website - the academy shares them on WhatsApp, so message them to ask which class suits your child's age and level. The Google listing notes that an appointment is required.
