About Dr Dona Psychology Clinic
Dr Dona Psychology Clinic is a DHA-licensed psychology clinic on the fifth floor of Saba Tower 1 in Cluster E, JLT. It is a psychology clinic for adults and children, with a dedicated Children & Adolescents division. For younger children it offers play therapy from age 4, in a room with toys, art materials and sand trays, alongside age-adapted CBT, art and expressive therapies, social skills work and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy. Teenagers aged 12 to 18 can see an adolescent therapist for anxiety, low mood, friendships, school pressure or family conflict. The clinic also carries out psychoeducational assessments that look at how a child learns, plus autism, ADHD and learning disability assessments. The clinicians named for children speak English, and two of them also speak Arabic. Sessions can be face to face or online. Ongoing therapy starts from AED 600 a session. The clinic bills FMC insurance directly and provides paperwork for other insurers. It is rated 5.0 on Google from 21 reviews.
The activity
Creative & Play Therapy, explained
Play therapy is a way for children to work through feelings they cannot yet put into words. In a room set up with toys, books, games, art materials and sand trays, a trained therapist lets the child lead the play, or sets short activities aimed at a specific goal. Drawing, painting, storytelling and arranging miniature figures in a sand tray all give a child a way to show what is going on. It is typically used for younger children, and parents usually meet the therapist separately to talk about progress and how to support their child at home. It is therapy, not a class: families usually come for a specific worry, such as anxiety, behaviour or a big change.
Who it's for
Children aged 4 and up (play therapy is described for children aged 4-12) and teenagers aged 12-18, plus their parents. The clinic also sees adults and couples. Special needs: it offers autism, ADHD, learning disability and psychoeducational assessments.
What to expect
Before booking, the clinic offers a free 10-minute introductory call to help choose the right therapist. Your first appointment is a parent consultation without your child in the room. The psychologist takes a full developmental and family history and goes through your worries in detail before meeting your child. After that, sessions depend on the child. Younger children may do free play, where they choose how to play, or structured play with a set goal, and may use sand trays, drawing and storytelling. Parents may have regular catch-ups with the therapist. For teenagers, joint parent-teen sessions may be arranged, and teen sessions are confidential within safeguarding limits. Ask the provider about session length and frequency.
